Meet The Black Designers Lewis Hamilton Brought To The Met Gala

The 2021 Met Gala had a few surprises. From Rihanna’s fashionably late red carpet entrance, to Simone Biles98-pound dress, and Keke Palmer’s expert hosting skills, Black Hollywood showed up and showed out. 

Among the Black excellence of the night, were the invited guests seated aT seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton's table. Just two days after Hamilton was involved in a near-death crash in Italy, the racecar driver took the Met Gala’s theme, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” to spotlight emerging Black fashion designers. 

“For me tonight, I’m really, really fortunate to be able to host my table and I brought four incredible young Black talented designers,” Hamilton told Palmer. The whole reason for hosting the table of up-and-coming Black designers, Hamilton said, “is about highlighting beauty and excellence and talent.”

So who are the guests who landed a spot at Hamilton’s table?
Singer Kehlani, athletes Sha'Carri Richardson and Miles Chamley-Watson, model Alton Mason, all sat at Hamilton's table for the night. Powerhouse stylist Law Roach was also at the table along with three emerging Black designers. Take a closer look at the designers below. 

Kenneth Nicholson

Kenneth Nicholson created Lewis Hamilton’s suit that featured a lace calf-length shirt. Hamilton says Nicholson’s “craftsmanship and point of view advances menswear in truly inspiring ways.”

Edvin Thompson of Theophilio

Jamaican-American fashion designer Edvin Thompson is the creative force and designer behind Theophilio. The Brooklyn-based fashion brand features boundary-pushing prints and silhouettes.

Jason Rembert

Fashion designer and stylist Jason Rembert is an emerging style leader in the industry. Rembert styled rapper Lil Baby for the Met Gala and several others including Mary J. Blige. The stylist and designer has also worked with Lizzo, Marsai Martin, and many more.
