Former President Barack Obama has declined to release his annual summer playlist due to "everything going on right now."

On Wednesday (August 27), Obama took to Instagram to share that he wouldn't be sharing his favorite tracks of the summer, marking the first time he hasn't done so since 2015.

“With everything going on right now, I didn’t have time to put a summer playlist together this year, but send me songs that I should listen to for my year-end playlist," Obama wrote on social media.

Obama declined to explain what events were preventing him from putting together his annual summer playlist. The former president has recently been vocal about his opposition to GOP-led redistricting in Texas and reportedly faced an uptick in death threats after Trump accused him of "treason."

On Wednesday, Obama also announced his excitement about having "a new branch of the Chicago Public Library at the Obama Presidential Center when it opens next year.”

The president did share his list of summer reads, which featured several books about immigration, democracy, and government. Among the books were Madeleine Thien’s “The Book of Records,” which he described as “a beautiful fable about migration, memory, and the struggle to recognize our common humanity," and Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson’s “Abundance,” “a must-read for progressives who want a blueprint for reforming government so it can deliver for working people.”
