President Donald Trump is touting the price of Walmart's Thanksgiving meal bundle to back up his claims that the economy has entered "the golden age" during his time in office, per NBC News.

In the wake of sweeping Democratic wins in Tuesday's (November 4) election, Trump bragged about the 25 percent price drop in Walmart's holiday dinner deal to try to reassure voters about the state of the economy.

“Grocery prices are way down, and Walmart just announced that the cost of their standard Thanksgiving meal … is 25% lower than one year ago. That’s a big deal," Trump said while speaking at the American Business Forum on Wednesday (November 5).

While the president’s claim is technically true, this year’s Walmart meal deal, now under $40, includes just 23 items, down from 29 in 2024. Missing from the 2025 basket are onions, celery, sweet potatoes, chicken broth, muffin mix, marshmallows, whipped topping, and pecan pie. Walmart also swapped in more affordable staples like dinner rolls and fresh cranberries in place of pricier options from the 2024 meal bundle.

The company said in a statement that the meal, which serves 10 people for less than $4 per person, represents “the most affordable holiday meal yet.” Since Wednesday, the president has repeatedly cited Walmart’s pricing in speeches and social media posts, framing it as proof of his economic success.

“Affordability is a Republican stronghold,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Hopefully, Republicans will use this irrefutable fact!”

While grocery prices overall are up 2.7 percent year-over-year, the White House has also cited a Wells Fargo report showing Thanksgiving meal costs are down 2-3 percent from 2024. Administration officials said the Walmart deal reflects progress in “winning the war on high prices,” despite the ongoing government shutdown.

When asked by NBC News about the reduced items in the Walmart bundle on Friday (November 7), Trump dismissed the question, saying, “Well, I haven’t heard that. Who are you with? Fake news.”
